Mac Gill is a graduate student at University of Iowa pursuing a MA in Library and Information Science, a MFA in Literary Translation and a certificate in Digital Humanities.
Her main interests are in archives and digital humanities which are both coming to life in this project. Her research seeks to make this classic text more accessible and interactive to students, as well as provide teaching resources available through the "Higaeru Genji" pedagogical travel guides. Her work on mapping the locations from the Tale in a way to move the analytical discussion outside of a Heian-kyo centered dialogue.
Mac's other areas of research include incense and it's place in society and literature of Heian Era Japan and the translation of modern Japanese literature.
